In Vocabulary Workshop, students learn 10 words per week. These are words they will encounter both in literature and on standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL.
The best way to learn vocabulary is to USE it, and in this class, students have multiple chances to use it in oral and written form. After class, they have access to online activities to bolster their retention.

Since 2019, I've taught more than 4,000 students from 93 countries on the popular Outschool platform. Come see why parents rave about these fun and instructive courses.
Anything that is taught live is also taught in a flexible format, meaning that students are able to access the videos and materials at any time! We have creative writing courses, basic paragraph construction courses, essay courses... and a lot more!
Perfect for both classroom teachers and homeschool parents and co-ops, this series of vocabulary materials consists of a presentable Google Drive slideshow and several printable worksheets for students.
Once each week, students meet in an online classroom to learn 10 new words, identify synonyms and antonyms, and write sentences using their new words. The words are always a mixture of parts of speech and levels of difficulty, but all come from higher-level vocabulary lists.
Last year, students from 93 countries participated in these classes!
Not everyone can access live classes, so students can also access the exact same material -- and teacher interaction through the online classroom -- with flex classes offered by Outschool and other platforms. These are broken down into four-week segments, each with 10 new words per week, writing challenges, and fun online games.
Follow the link below to a list of current one-time vocabulary classes.
Each Workshop includes the animated 26-page Google slide presentation (can be used by students independently or presented by an instructor to a class), a printable definition page (for students to write down their definitions, synonyms, and antonyms), a change-the-word story for after-class use, and a worksheet with an image that students can use to write sentences using their words.
Each slide is animated to first display the vocabulary word and an associated image, then the pronunciation, then the definition, then synonyms, antonyms, and etymology. A second slide for each word includes two sentences and illustrations. This can be used independently for students or by a teacher for a classroom. The slides can be opened in Canva, Google Drive, etc. for presentation.
